On Friday, May 12th, 2017, Heritage Elder Law and Estate Planning delivered over 600 yellow roses to women in local nursing homes. The tags on the roses read, “Thank you for the beauty and strength you bring to our world.”
The work that is done every day at Heritage Elder Law is done to help seniors protect and preserve their family heritage. The goal is always to advocate for the benefit of every single family that walks through the doors. However, Heritage wanted to do something more this Mother's Day, and for the benefit of as many Mothers as possible to reach.
According to the aaltci.org website, over 70% of nursing home residents are women. Every month Heritage Elder Law employees visit numerous local nursing homes in order to provide support and help to families who need their services. What better audience to surprise with the gift of a yellow rose?
Yellow roses symbolize friendship, joy and good health. Frequently, the yellow rose is associated with the sun. The sun is the center of the universe, and serves to provide warmth, light, and energy. You could say, the sun holds everything together. Mothers give their whole hearts to their families, each day striving to provide warmth, light and energy. Many people would attest to the fact that their Mothers were the sunshine in their homes; the ones who held everything together. That is why the yellow rose was chosen. It is symbolic of the nature of a Mother’s life.
“It was such an honor to be able to give the yellow roses to the women at the nursing homes,” said Leigh Black of Heritage Elder Law. “One woman starting crying before I even handed her the rose. It felt right to give back to so many women who have provided so much beauty and strength to those they love, their entire lives.”
Old men still tear up when sharing stories about their Mothers, even years after she has been gone. Young children will probably never stop arguing about whose Mom is the best. “My Mom makes the best chocolate chip cookies!” “Well, my Mom throws the best birthday parties!” Grown adults never seem to outgrow their need for their Moms, and countless Dads would testify to the fact that their children would not be who they are today without the influence, encouragement and support of their Mothers. Heritage Elder Law recognizes this, and hopes their efforts to say thank you this year provided a little joy and sunshine to the 600 women who received a yellow rose on Mother’s Day weekend.
